Update Your 12.1 Inch Mk4 Head Unit

Latest update 27 May 2026, build G6P A13

This is the latest software for the 12.1 inch Mk4 head unit in the 70 Series LandCruiser. You download it on a computer, copy it onto a USB stick, and the head unit installs it from the stick.

Download 12.1 Mk4 Update 20260527.rar (2.6 GB) Large file, download it on a computer

What's new in this update

  • The current software build for the 12.1 inch Mk4, dated 27 May 2026.
  • It's the fix for a 12.1 inch Mk4 that starts up into an unfamiliar menu or screen, such as Fastboot.
  • It's built for the 12.1 inch Mk4 only. The 9 inch Mk4 has its own update.

Before you start

  • A computer to download and extract the file. At 2.6 GB it's too large for most phones.
  • A plain USB-A stick of 8 GB or more. A stick of 32 GB or less is the simplest to format as FAT32.
  • A program that opens .rar files. WinRAR or 7-Zip on Windows, The Unarchiver or Keka on a Mac.
  • The vehicle on accessory power or with the engine running, so the head unit stays on until the update finishes.

Update Your Head Unit

  1. Download the Update

Download the update from the button above. The file is called 12.1 MK4 QZD_G6P_A13_WCX_HW_768x1024_20260527-164005.rar and it's 2.6 GB, so use a computer on a steady internet connection.

  2. Extract the .rar File

A .rar file has to be extracted before you can use it. On Windows, open it with WinRAR or 7-Zip. On a Mac, open it with The Unarchiver or Keka. Extracting it gives you one folder.

  3. Format the USB Stick as FAT32

The head unit only reads a USB stick formatted as FAT32. Formatting erases everything on the stick, so copy off anything you want to keep first.

On Windows, open File Explorer, right-click the USB stick and choose Format. Set the file system to FAT32 and click Start. If FAT32 isn't in the list, the stick is larger than 32 GB, so use a smaller one.

On a Mac, open Disk Utility, select the USB stick and click Erase. Set the format to MS-DOS (FAT) and click Erase.

  4. Copy What's Inside the Folder Onto the USB Stick

Open the folder you extracted, select everything inside it and copy it onto the USB stick. Don't copy the folder itself. The files have to sit at the top level of the stick, not inside a folder, or the head unit won't find the update.

Open the USB stick on your computer to check. You should see the same files and folders that were inside the extracted folder, with no single folder to open first. Eject the stick before you unplug it.

  5. Plug the USB Stick Into the Head Unit

With the head unit switched on, plug the USB stick into the head unit's USB cable. The head unit picks up the update and runs it. Follow the prompt on the screen.

Don't turn the ignition off, cut the power or pull the USB stick out while the update runs. If the screen asks you to remove the USB stick when it's finished, take it out then.

If you run into trouble

If the update doesn't start

Nearly every time it's one of two things. The USB stick isn't formatted as FAT32, or the folder was copied onto the stick instead of what's inside it.

Open the stick on your computer. If you see one folder, open it, move everything inside it to the top level of the stick and try again. If the files look right, format the stick as FAT32 again (step 3) and copy the files back on (step 4).

If the head unit doesn't read the USB stick

Use a plain USB-A stick of 8 GB or more, plugged straight into the head unit's USB cable. Skip adapters, hubs and USB-C sticks. A stick of 32 GB or less is the simplest to format as FAT32. If one stick still isn't read, try another.

If you can't open the .rar file

If double-clicking the file doesn't open it, install WinRAR or 7-Zip on Windows, or The Unarchiver or Keka on a Mac, and open the file with that.

If the update is interrupted

If the power is cut or the USB stick comes out during the update, plug the same stick back in with the head unit on and let it try again. If it still won't start up, contact PVS support with a photo of the screen.
