PVS Automotive - ADR Approved Steering Wheels
PVS ADR PROGRAM

ADR Approved Steering Wheels

Built and tested with key Toyota platforms in mind including LandCruiser 70 Series, 200 Series, 250 Prado and 300 Series so your vehicle stays legal, insurable and safe on Australian roads.

  • ADR Focused Design.  Steering frames and mounting are engineered around Australian Design Rule requirements.
  • Airbag And Horn Integration.  Built around original modules and wiring wherever applicable.
  • Independent Testing.  Validated with real vehicles and real driving conditions in mind.

*ADR coverage can vary by platform. Always check the product page for model specific information and local requirements.

Multiple ADR Standards

Why ADR Approval Matters

ADR (Australian Design Rules) are the same standards your vehicle was built to at the factory. An ADR Approved steering wheel upgrade is about keeping it that way.

Every vehicle sold in Australia goes through testing for steering, airbag safety and occupant protection. Swapping the factory wheel for an untested part means changing a safety critical component with no data on how it behaves in a crash.

A PVS ADR Approved steering wheel is engineered as part of the steering and restraint system. That means design decisions and performance are documented and repeatable instead of guessed from appearance alone.

Legal Compliance

Designed around the same safety rules that apply to new vehicles and engineering sign offs.

Insurance Confidence

Backed by an engineering and test program instead of cosmetic changes only.

Occupant Safety

Steering and restraint behaviour are considered together from the start of the program.

From CAD To Certified Hardware

Every ADR Approved steering wheel follows a defined engineering and test path from first sketch to production wheel.

  1. 01

    Concept And CAD Design

Frame, spokes and mounting are modelled from day one around ADR requirements for each platform.

  2. 02

    Prototyping And Bench Testing

Production intent materials are tested for load, vibration and fatigue before any wheel is signed off.

  3. 03

    Airbag And Crash Simulation

Wheel, column and restraint system are assessed together under representative impact conditions.

  4. 04

    On Vehicle Validation

Durability testing on sealed roads, corrugations and off road conditions to confirm long term strength.

  5. 05

    Independent Engineering Sign Off

Performance is documented and reviewed by accredited engineers before production release.

Inside The ADR Test Environment

A look at the kind of test work that sits behind a steering wheel upgrade built with ADR requirements in mind.

ADR Standards Considered

Steering wheels sit in the middle of several ADR requirements. Here are some of the key areas that shape our designs.

ADR 42/05

General Safety Requirements

Covers basic steering safety and installation requirements.

ADR 69/00

Full Frontal Impact

Helps ensure the steering system does not create extra risk in a head on crash.

ADR 73/00

Offset Frontal Impact

Focuses on off centre impacts and driver survival space.

ADR 90/00

Steering System Performance

Looks at strength, collapse behaviour and steering control.

ADR 94/00

Horn System Integrity

Horn wiring and controls need to remain reliable after the upgrade.

ADR 10/02

Steering Column

Covers how the column collapses and absorbs energy in a crash.

Our ADR Journey

The program has grown over several years from first ideas to a complete steering wheel range.

2017

Program Begins

Initial concepts, packaging studies and CAD work for key Toyota platforms.

2019

Prototypes

Structural and airbag compatibility work starts on early wheels.

2020

Lab And Road Testing

Crash style tests and on vehicle durability trials across multiple platforms.

2023

First ADR Approved Range

Steering wheels for popular Toyota platforms are released with a test history behind them.

2025

Expanded Coverage

New wheel styles and more platforms are added as the program grows.

ADR FAQ

Answers to some of the common questions we get about ADR and steering wheel upgrades.

Legality And Insurance
Is An ADR Approved Steering Wheel Legal?

When a steering wheel is designed, tested and approved against the relevant ADRs it can be treated as a suitable replacement for the factory part. Always check local rules in your state or territory and speak with an engineer or registration authority if you are unsure.

Do I Need To Tell My Insurer?

Many insurers treat a properly engineered wheel as an acceptable modification, but it is always safest to update your policy with any significant change to the vehicle so there are no surprises at claim time.

Safety And Airbag Systems
What About The Airbag?

Airbag deployment paths, clearances and wiring are part of the design work for an ADR Approved steering wheel. The goal is to keep the system behaving as intended when the steering wheel is changed.

Why Are Cheap Replica Wheels A Risk?

Replica wheels often copy the look of a factory wheel but not the structure behind the trim. Without design data and test information there is no way to know how they will behave in an impact or how they affect the airbag system.

Fitment And Compatibility
Do Wheels Need To Be Platform Specific?

Yes. Steering column design, splines, controls and airbag modules vary between platforms. Wheels are designed around specific vehicles instead of a one size fits all approach.

Will I Get An Airbag Or SRS Light?

When installed correctly using the correct module and clockspring, an ADR Approved steering wheel should not trigger warning lights. Professional installation is always recommended for any safety related component.
